About the Artist
Erland Knudssøn MadsenErland Knudssøn Madsen was born in Viborg, Denmark in 1942. Up until about 1980, he focused his attention on painting but has since worked exclusively with sculpture. Erland Knudssøn Madsen lives and works in Nor near Thisted in northern Jutland.
Madsen is a member of the Comrades Artist Association in Jutland and the Vraa Exhibition. He made his debut at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1963 at the Free Center of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen. He has also exhibited in a variety of museums, galleries and art halls throughout Denmark and occasionally in other Nordic countries as well as in Poland, Germany, and Slovenia.
Erland Knudssøn Madsen's works are represented in several museums, including Vejle Art Museum, Randers Art Museum, the Køge Drawing Collection, Vendsyssel Art Museum and the Vraa Art Center. The New Carlsberg Foundation and Danish State Art Fund have also collected his works. In 2006 he was awarded the Eckerberg's Medal. In 2008 he was a recipient of the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's Legat.
